Jack's Jacket

Jack, his manbag, and his jacket (Season 8, Episode 1)

Second only to his manbag, Jack's jackets are another popular item from the series, but this season you might having a feeling you've seen that jacket somewhere else before

This season, Jack is wearing a leather jacket made by Jonathan Logan. In fact, Jack's jacket is a shortened (and dyed) version of the jacket Brad Pitt wore in the film Seven

This jacket can only be purchased by placing an order with Mr Logan directly so be prepared to be paying a large price, and you must quote the reference Classic Vintage Jacket #3 as he is not allowed to associate the jacket with Bauer's character due to legal reasons! So with a $900 bag, and equally expensive jacket Jack has paid a lot for his threads this season - I hope he gets some good wear out of them.

CTU Display Screens

Dana using the Dell screens in CTU (Season 1, Episode 8)

This season, as well as increasing their lighting budget, CTU New York have increased their screen real estate. There is the large projection in the centre of the bullpen, and also a curious desktop setup where each worker has their monitor mounted under a glass desk!?

CTU is using a selection of monitors from Dell. The previously mentioned "under desk" setups are made up of a pair of E2210 22-inch widescreen flat panel monitors.

The screen has a resolution of up to 1680x1050 pixels and has a 5ms response time which should help reduce "ghosting" (which can be a bit off putting when you are trying to covertly hack into a secure police evidence lockup).

The Dell E2210 22-inch Wide Screen Display can be bought here

Jack's Bag

Jack, his manbag, and CTU agent Cole Ortiz (Season 8, Episode 1)

Yes, this is the post you have been waiting for. Batman has his utility belt; Jack Bauer has a manbag. Some days you just can't fit all your terror-busting tools in your pockets, which is why a selection of sturdy (but fashionable) bags is another vital part of Bauer's kit.

The Bauer manbag has developed a cult following over the past few seasons, with Facebook fan pages devotees, and even a dedicated blog ("The Jack Sack"), and it won't surprise you that even I own a previous Bauer bag from season 5. But if you want Season 8's bag, you'd better have been saving up your money...

This season Jack is using a Ralph Lauren Double RL Leather Mail Bag. This was released in early 2009, and is priced at just under $900. That's a lot to pay considering there is a good chance it'll be covered in gunpowder within a few hours of use.

CTU Hand Scanner

Chloe with the hand scanner (Season 8, Episode 2)

We always knew that CTU never had the highest security protocols (well, it has been taken over by terrorists on at least two occasions) and this season they are attempting to improve their security reputation by using a swanky hand scanner.

What CTU don't realise though is someone has sold them a dud. You see, the hand scanner is actually a disguised Wacom graphics tablet.

The version being used is the Wacom Intuos4 XL DTP Edition A3. It is the largest size of Wacom's pen tablets, and the buttons and dials at the bottom of the frame can be customised with your own shortcuts. Of course, this graphics tablet can not be used to capture hand scans - so it's no wonder Jack was able to get through the security doors!

The Wacom Intuos4 XL DTP Edition A3 can be bought here

Chloe's Laptop

Chloe and Jack searching the traffic cam feeds (Season 8, Episode 2)

When you are a world-class counter terrorist analyst you need a computer that is reliable, isn't prone to viruses, and has the option to be compatible with alien spacecraft (see Independence Day). You need a Mac.

At first glance, it appears that Chloe is using a MacBook Pro (complete with aluminium unibody enclosure and glowing Apple logo). However, if you look carefully you'll see that the words "Macbook" appear under the main screen and not "MacBook Pro". This reveals that Chloe is actually using the now discontinued 13" aluminium MacBook.

The slightly glossy finish on the top case tells me that Chloe's Mac is being protected by a Speck Unibody See Thru' Case. This a hard shell case that offers protection as well as easy access to the ports on the Macbook.

The 13" MacBook's are discontinued, but have been replaced by the 13" MacBook Pro.
The Speck See Thru' Case can be purchased here

CTU Bluetooth Headsets

Dana Walsh and Chloe O'Brian in CTU New York (Season 8, Episode 1)

24 - Season 8 sees the return of the iconic Counter Terrorist Unit (CTU). In past seasons CTU has been a dark, foreboding bullring. It may come as no surprise then that when CTU returns this year they seem to have decided it might be better to actually turn on some lights rather than have all their employees suffer eye-strain.

Gone too are the Cisco Telephones (and if you're on this website, it's likely that you had the "24 ringtone" on your own phone at some point) and instead everyone is wearing Plantronics bluetooth headsets.

Both the headsets use AudioIQ2 technology which uses an additional mic to detect background noise and cancel it out. This is bound to be useful in CTU as you don't want that phone call to the President to be drowned out by the new guy making his fifth cup of coffee this hour.

Jack Bauer's Phone

Don't divert him to voicemail (Season 8, Episode 1)

Out of all the gadgets that appear on 24, none are as mission-critical as Jack Bauer's cellphone. With a seemingly infinite battery life, super-fast call connections, and the ability to get a clear reception even during an international crisis, this is Jack's most trusted ally. Let's hope he has topped up his credit.

This year, Jack is using a Samsung Instinct S30. It features a 3.2" LCD touch screen with haptic feedback and includes a 2 mega pixel digital camera (capable of both stills and video). It has an interesting "speech to action" function, so expect Jack to bark orders at his phone over the few months. The stylish "cobalt metal" finish emphasises this phone is just as powerful as any weapon when fighting terrorists. Especially when Jack wedges it down your throat to get those detonator codes.

The Samsung S30 is currently exclusive to Sprint in the United States and can be purchased for $49.99
